Balloon Launch v0.01 17 November 2007
Today we sent a camera into space! Alright, not quite space, but maybe a few thousand feet up. It took ten 2' dia. balloons to get the camera package in the air. The payload consisted of a Canon A510, 2 servos, protective foam, release mechaniasm, servo controller board, and a parachute. The controller board would use one servo to take photos every ten seconds, and the other servo would release the package from the balloons after ten minutes. Ten of these ballons should provide about 2.5lbs of lift, and the payload weighs in at about 1.5lbs including balloons. A -1lb. package should climb about 1k'/min. however I believe ours was more like 300'/min. This was a little dissappointing, though the mission was definitely a success for 4 reasons.
- It went up.
- It took photos.
- The balloon release worked.
- We found it.
